Landless
the new album
by Ali E
Ali E's musical career spans many years. After and while being involved in bands such as Little Athletics, Damn Terran and Heavy Beach, she has now also developed a solo project.

When performing as a singer/songwriter Ali E's evocative and compelling music breathes tales of dark desire and constructs metaphors of emotive and weathered landscapes. Her guitar driven melodies have the ability to haunt and engulf you one second then musically slap you into back into awareness the next.

SOME LIVE FOOTAGE OF ALI E's ALBUM LAUNCH:

ALI E DEBUT ALBUM RELEASE AND LAUNCH:
Landless, the debut album from Melbourne songstress Ali E is a fearless, uncompromising and visceral outing. From the opening track, ‘Lovely Water’, Ali E creates an air of instant intimacy with the listener and this easy familiarity continues until ‘Charlie Brooker’ clicks off some forty minutes later. A bold first statement, Landless completes the picture outlined by first singles, ‘So It Goes’ and the album’s title track.
Whilst primarily featuring just Ali E’s voice and guitar in an array layered permutations, Landless traverses myriad expressions in light and shade. Raw yet rich with strummed rhythm and weaving melodies, and subtle hints of drums, bass and keys, the tracks that make up Landless gradually build momentum, giving the impression of continuous movement through wide open spaces; stirring reactions both physical and emotional.
Stepping out on her own, Landless represents marked departure from Ali E’s work with Melbourne projects Damn Terran and Ferry Tails.
You can listen and download the album from Bandcamp .

NEW SINGLE RELEASE:
'Landless' is the second track to be taken from Melbourne rock songstress, Ali E's forthcoming debut album. In contrast to the inward gaze of first single, 'So It Goes', 'Landless' shows Ali E looking into the distance. Opening with a ringing, delayed guitar melody and Ali E's reverb drenched vocal 'Landless' paints a sepia nostalgia before changing direction, picking up pace and accelerating forward. Whilst sadness creeps at the sides, 'Landless' is imbued with a steely resolve to look up and onwards. 'Landless's rhythmic mix of guitar and drums recalls the sound of trains on tracks and cars on endless highways wrapping the whole in a constant sense of movement. Lyrics such as "Today I'm leaving" and "You're disappearing" further the momentum but 'Landless' isn't so much about running away as it is about moving on.

"Local songstress Ali E is quickly becoming my new favourite thing. She sings with raw passion and uninhibited feeling that chills to the bone. Her new single "Landless" aches with a mournful nostalgia that comes with letting go of the past and moving on. The subtle melancholia offers comfort and solidarity for a better tomorrow and your heart will soar as you lose yourself in the sparse melodies."

"You've probably seen Ali Edmonds around most parts playing bass for Damn Terran and doing stuff for her other projects Little Athletics and Ferry Tails. She also runs a great zine called Death of a Scenester. Many, many 90's comforts about 'So It Goes'. This is probably a little time machine for some of you to the earlier part of the last decade when JJJ didn't playlist chicks trying to out-do each other's best Kate Bush impression. More drums would give this a bigger backbone, but there's something to be said for those pared back riffs which show off some great songwriting. It's hard to shake those PJ pointers too. If Ali tees up a tour with Adalita and Amaya, I will be a very happy soul."
